Boobie Baby

Well, boobie baby is still just that, a boobie baby. He refuses any and all other feeding methods, unless it's on a spoon. He will suck on a sippy occasionally, but really just chews on it, therefore getting milk in his mouth that way. He is still biting, but it comes and goes. Some days are worse than others. Some days he doesn't bite at all, some days he bites constantly. I'm hoping as soon as his top teeth come in he'll stop. Those suckers have got to be getting close! His gums have been red and swollen for at least a month, if not more. I don't see the tops of them yet, but still crossing my fingers that they cut through any day now. It seems with Logan the bottom two and top two were the worst and then he didn't seem to notice any more teeth until his molars came in. I'm hoping it's the same for Nate. Only 4 more months to go! I'm getting to the home stretch and I can see a teeny tiny pinpoint of light at the end of the tunnel. As soon as Nate is weaned, Brent and I are headed to VEGAS for some much needed kid free time. Nate is LOVING baby food. He can put away more food than Logan. Yesterday, 30 minutes after he nursed, he ate 1/2 cup cereal with a whole jar of baby peaches, 1/2 scoop of formula and an oz or two of water. Mom told me she fed him real oatmeal and he ate a whole packet by himself. The boy can eat and I imagine he is the one that's going to eat me out of the house. He is picking up food better and better and able to get it in his mouth a little more, so as soon as those pinchers start being consistent I'm going to start on more real food. I try to give him some of whatever I have but he gets choked up really easy, so I'm being careful with that. It's like he has a really sensitive gag reflux or something. I thought Nate was allergic to mangos because when I fed him some banana mango several weeks ago, he got red and blotchy around his eyes and mouth. I had fed him banana before and didn't notice anything, so I blamed the mango. Turns out it was the banana after all. Brent was feeding him some the other day and noticed the red blotchy-ness again. So, those are out for now.

Speaking of food, Logan is being more brave when it comes to trying new things. He ate most of Brent's meatloaf a couple days ago. Lasagna, chicken fingers and chicken pot pie are some other things he's tried recently. If he sees Brent eat it, he seems to want to try it. He tried scrambled eggs again, too, but still is not a fan. He requests sausage every morning for breakfast, so at least he's working some meat into his diet (I don't just feed him sausage, he gets some pancakes, waffles, oatmeal or toast too).

Nate is not turning his foot over nearly as much when he's sitting down. I always correct it like the doctor told me to do and it seems to be helping. He's scooting around a little on his belly, so army crawling is getting near. I'm not sure what I'll do when they both are mobile!

Happenings...

Taking away sassy has proven to be the absolute worst idea EVER! Logan is hardly sleeping. He has not attached to another comfort item so instead of putting himself back to sleep when he wakes through the night, he is coming into our room. Last night he got up 4 times from 1:30 to 5:30 and then didn't go back to sleep after that. I thought he would be adjusted by now, but it's just not happening. Nate is sleeping more consistent. He sometimes goes for a long 4 hour stretch in the beginning of the night, but of course that's when we're still up. After that he sleeps for 2-3 hr stretches usually. So, I've got Logan getting up every hour or two, Nate every two or three, Brent working 70+ hrs a week and usually 6 days a week....We are all just plain worn out.

I did get a break recently though! Mom came down last Wednesday and stayed til Sunday. She slept with Logan and took care of his demands in the middle of the night as well as got up at his unusually early hours. As soon as she got here Wednesday, she kicked me out of the house and told me to go get a pedicure. I didn't protest. I walked out of the house with her feeding Nate peeps and Logan ice cream and I didn't even care, haha. That day was also Brent's birthday so we went out to eat, by ourselves. Thursday I ran some errands by myself, met mom at the playground with the boys and we had a picnic. Thursday evening Brent thought he was going to work late, so I planned on catching a movie. He ended up getting off just in time to meet me at the theater! Friday, I visited and toured some church Mother's Day Out and 2 year old preschool programs. The boys will both start Mother's Morning Out at a local Methodist church next Friday. I'm really looking forward to the sanity break every week! This church, as well as another, has a 2 year old preschool type program. They are either 2-3 days a week, depending on the church. The one with the 2 day a week program is booked for next year but they put me on the waiting list. The 3 day a week one is where they are going to Mother's Morning Out. It's a little bit more expensive than the other and obviously is one more day a week. It's also a good little trek from home, where the one that is book is literally 1 mile down the road. I'm hoping a spot comes open soon at the closer one, but I can't wait too much longer because the other one is also almost full. Both have Mother's Day out that I can take Nate to once a week. I also got a massage on Friday! I'm so not the pampering type usually, but I was well overdue. Friday night we went to a Frito dinner. We met some really nice people and hopefully some that we will become friends with! Saturday morning we took Nate to get his 6 month pictures taken (even though he was already 7 mos). We went to eat at Sticky Fingers for lunch. Once we got home, we got Logan and planned on taking him to see some Frito tractor trailers in action but they were already done for the day, so instead we headed to Walmart to get fishing licenses and Logan a fishing pole. By the time we got out of Walmart it was raining, go figure! It stopped for a minute so we headed out. Brent caught 1 fish and that was it. Logan fell in the mud, the wind was horrible, so we only stayed a few minutes. Later than evening we managed to hit the movie theaters again for our last hurrah before Mom left.

Sunday, Brent had to work but me and the boys still managed to visit a church. It's called Harvest Church. It's Methodist based but has a live band and is more of a community, contemporary, nondenominational type service. Logan flipped out when I left him in childcare, but he was playing with the rest of the kids when I picked him up, so I guess he did ok. Nate could have cared less where he was.

Julie visited a couple weekends ago. We went out to eat at Brent's favorite, Red Lobster on Saturday. Sunday morning we headed to the Cherry Blossom Festival. We thought it was going to be more like a fair with lots of arts and craft vendors but it was more or less a traveling carnival. Logan absolutely freaked out on the kiddie boat ride, so I guess Disney is no where in our near future. Brent and I rode the Ferris Wheel and Logan and I rode the teacups. We had a good time even though it wasn't what we expected. To show you how much I need a sanity break. I decided to go to the grocery store while the boys were napping. Julie was parked right behind me, plain as day. I'm so scatter brained that I didn't even notice and back right into her car. There was no damage to my car, go figure, but her bumper got a little dinged up. Luckily insurance is taking care of it.

We have a busy month ahead. This weekend we are going to a Car Show and Swap Meet at the Georgia National Fairgrounds. Brent has been looking forward to this for weeks. It's suppose to be pretty this weekend, so it's a good way to get out of the house and be outside. I also have had a special yard sale on the list for this weekend for a while. This lady put a craigslist out weeks ago about her yard sale and said that she is selling all of her fabric, crafting supplies, notion, machines, etc, because she can no longer sew due to back problems. I'm hoping it's craft heaven and I hit the jackpot!! There is also a community yard sale in a really nice subdivision nearby, but I may skip that one since I pretty much have already acquired the boys summers clothes and don't really need anything else.

We don't have plans for the next weekend, so I'm hoping it's nice and relaxing and just maybe no issues arise at Frito and Brent won't have to go in. I can dream, right? haha.

Laura is flying home April 15!! Me and the boys are heading up to Chattanooga as soon as they get out of Mother's Day Out. It will be my first trip home since living here and I'm tackling it head on with both boys in tow. Hopefully it goes smoothly!! We have lots of plans together while she's here. We're hoping to hit the outlets in Calhoun, go boat riding, wedding dress shopping with a good friend, Easter dinner at my parents, visiting my friends that I haven't seen since I was pregnant with Nate. Whew, it's going to be a busy weekend! Brent is coming up either late Saturday or early Sunday. We have to find time to squeeze in both his grandparents sometime, since we won't be up Easter weekend.

The weekend after Easter is Brent's cousin's wedding. We're going to come up and spend the weekend at Julie's. Since we are coming up the weekend before Easter and the weekend after, we aren't going to try to stress ourselves with 3 trips up in a row and come Easter. Plus, with the way Brent is working he can't hardly justify being unavailable that much. We will just celebrate Easter here and hopefully go to a community Easter egg hunt.

Homemade Holiday

I decided late last year that the next Christmas I was declaring a "Homemade Holiday". I've been searching for ideas and have found a ton! I'm so excited to get started. My plan was to start in June, but I'm almost finished with a quilt top I've been working on, so I'm going to start as soon as that's done. Now let's just hope the things I've found are as easy to sew as they look!

It's Been a Month??

I've been thinking I needed to update the blog, but I have been having a hard time thinking of stuff to update on. Then Julie said "when are you updating the blog" so I guess it's time to ramble a little, haha.

Nate had his 6 month appointment Tuesday (even though he's already 7 months, oops!!). He weighed 17 lbs 13 oz, 39%. 27.75 inches long, 75%. They said his growth and development are perfect! I brought up my concerns about him biting. She said I was doing the right things to get him to stop and since it's been going on since he was 4 months old and getting increasingly worse, that chances are it's due to teething and probably won't get much better since teething is pretty constant from here on out. She suggested pumping and giving him a bottle. Sounds like a great idea to me....if I responded to a pump and he took a bottle. I've been trying to get him to take a sippy and he will suck on it for a minute or two but then looses interest. I did get him to take about 1.5 oz of formula from one a couple days ago. I keep going back and forth from wanting to switch him over completely (granted he'll take the sippy), to wanting him to be able to take a bottle/sippy of formula so I can get out a little but still breastfeed when I'm home, to just sticking it out for the next 5 months. In 3.5 months I can start introducing whole milk and some people have their kids completely on milk around 11 months (some earlier, but I don't feel comfortable with that). So until I wrap my head around what I want to do, I'm sticking with it. I don't want to regret anything, don't want to feel guilty. I added it up the other day and I've been pregnant or breastfeeding for 3 of the last 3.5 years. The only time I have been neither of those was when Logan was 6-12 months old. I asked for it, I wanted it and I planned it exactly that way, but sometimes I wonder what in the hell was I thinking!!! Then, other days I plan out when we should try for #3. I think I've lost my mind somewhere in the last 3.5 years, haha.

Back to the booby baby...I also asked the pediatrician about how his left foot seems rolled in when he's sitting. I wasn't imagining it, she noticed it also once I pointed it out. When he sits and his legs are bent in sort of a triangle in front of him, the top of his left foot is almost flat against the ground. She showed me an exercise to do with him, but said it's usually a habit type thing and not something abnormal with the tendons, muscles or ligaments and if it is one of those things it's usually outgrown by age 2.

He had to get 5 shots. It was horrible. He usually got a combo shot at the old pediatrician's office, but this office only offers the combo shot to patients on state insurance. I had an absolute fit! I told her how I thought my children should have, at a minimum, the same options as people on state insurance and I felt we were being penalized for being on private insurance. She said she completely understood my frustration and that she agreed it should also be available to private insurance patients, however when the partners voted she was outvoted. I'm sure they get paid more for individual shots or somethings, who knows. He seemed to handle the shots well, other than he acted like his legs were really sore. He's never done that before, but when you add 3 more sticks to the legs I'm sure that makes you sore. Stupid doctors and their politics. Logan did not like seeing his baby get shots either. After the second shot, Nate of course was crying pretty hard, Logan reached up to try to wipe the blood drop off Nate's leg and almost got stuck himself. The nurse and I had to body block Logan from reaching for Nate while I had Nate's arms and she had his legs. On the bright side, that was the last round of those shots, so he won't be getting that many at once again.

Nate is now sitting up unassisted on his own. Reaching for and manipulating his toys with great coordination. It's surprising to me how well he is all of a sudden using his hands! His pinchers are starting to work sometimes, so he'll probably be on real food soon. I've been feeding him some baby food and whatever we have that I can mush up and he handles it great. He can really put away some food though! He can nurse before we sit down to eat, eat more than Logan and then be ready to nurse again an hour later. I think he will be the one eating me out of the house when he gets a little older! He has been pushing up on his arms for a while now. He can pivot and turn circles on his tummy and he is rolling across the floor like crazy. He is kicking his legs trying to get traction when he's on his stomach so I think he'll be army crawling any day now. He's reaching for us when we walk by to pick him up. He squeals when I'm not around to get my attention but if I'm where he can see me he grunts, then he holds his arms up indicating he wants me to come get him. He is absolutely obsessed with Logan and what Logan is doing. Logan brings him toys or plays peek a boo with him to get him laughing. They especially play in the car and it's so cute to hear them giggling together. Melts my heart!

Logan has grown a foot since Christmas. Well, not really a foot but he is definitely getting some long legs to match his long torso. I know I always mention my frustration with pants, but he has all of a sudden grown out of all his jeans in length and most in the waist too. He only has a couple pairs left, but it's warming up here pretty quick so I think the couple he has will last the rest of the season. I put him on our home scale the other day and it said 30 lbs. I doubt that's accurate because that would mean 5 lbs since October, but I definitely think he's gained some weight! His speech grows by leaps and bounds every day. A couple nights ago when I put him down for bed he said "love you so much, mommy". Then last night he said it to Brent too. I get comments almost every time we're out on how good his speech is, so I guess we're doing something right! I always worried their speech would be delayed since they don't go to daycare. With his improving speech, comes Mommy and Daddy watching every.little.thing.they.say. Whew, is that difficult. I didn't realize what all we said that was not appropriate for a child to say, haha. For instance, Jade dug in the yard when we first moved. It made Brent mad and as he was trying to fill the dirt back in he muttered "stupid dog". Logan heard it and will not let it go! Any time Jade does something he doesn't like he says "stupid dog". I try and try to explain to him that is a bad word and he shouldn't say it but he just won't stop. I've started ignoring it thinking he'll forget about it or it won't be such a fun word to say since I'm not acknowledging it. Then, Mom was in town last weekend. We were in my sewing room trying to fix my machine. She thought she had it fixed but right at the end it started messing up again. She said "aw shit" under her breath. Of course Logan heard it. He repeated it once. I didn't make a big stink about it (going back to my philosophy on stupid) and mom told him that she was a bad boy (he thinks everyone is a boy, we're working on the whole boy/girl thing) for saying that and he shouldn't say it either. I thought that was the end of it because I hadn't heard it since....until we went out to eat. Brent was working late Tuesday so me and the boys went to eat Japanese. Logan scooped up a big bite of rice on his fork, which then fell off. He said "aww shipt". So, not only does he know his first cuss word, but exactly the right context to use it in. However, that was not the most embarrassing thing of our dinner. Later he got out of this chair, squatted in the middle of the aisle, strained with all his might and said "get it out, get it out". He's having bathroom issues again, if you didn't figure it out from that. I'm sure that's not the most embarrassing thing he'll ever do, but it was at the time!

Logan LOVES the fenced in back yard....and so does Mommy!! He goes out every afternoon, weather permitting, and plays and plays. He and Jade have dug a giant hole along the back fence line and he gets his shovel and cars, buries them or fills his trucks up with dirt. Every time he's outside he thinks that automatically means he gets a Popsicle, so he's usually covered in sticky melted Popsicle with dirt stuck to it by the end of the day. I even had to designate a certain pair of shoes as his play shoes, which I've never had to do before. He usually stays out til dinner time. It has been a blessing to me as well. Aside from the dirt he tracks in, it gives me time to get the downstairs straightened up and occasionally I get to watch regular adult TV too (usually DIY or HGTV)! I try to have all my cleaning and straightening done by Nate's 3:30 nap so I can have a little chill time.

He can count to 9 now, but won't do it on command. If he thinks I'm not paying attention he'll count all the way without messing up, but when I want him to, he usually skips 4 and 5. Earlier today I heard him singing his ABC's along with one of Nate's toys, so maybe that's our next adventure.

Julie is coming down this weekend to visit! I'm excited for her to see the house! The Cherry Blossom Festival is also going on for the next 10 days, so we're hoping to hit that up sometime too. Brent's birthday is next week. 28!! He's so old ;) Sad thing is, I'm just 11 months behind him! I'm really, really hoping to go to Tybee next weekend, weather permitting, but I'm still trying to convince Brent of that idea.

SO I guess I did have something to update....
