Nightmare
Every nursing mother's worst nightmare...mastitis. Yep, I got it. Still have it. Saturday and Sunday the pain and flu like symptoms that come along with it made me wish I were in labor instead. Yeah, it's that intense. I think that's the first time I've ever told a Dr that my pain level was a 10 on the 1-10 scale. I'm usually pretty tolerant with pain too. I don't have the flu like symptoms anymore, they went away yesterday afternoon for the most part and are completely gone today except for a mild headache.
Saturday was my Mother's Day, because Brent had to work Sunday. We were trying to make the best of the day even though I didn't feel good. I thought I was catching Brent's cough and felt a little under the weather from that. Around 3:00 I had a little breast pain, but thought I was just a little engorged from Nate eating soooo much the past couple days and he'd upped my supply or I just hadn't fed him on that side in a while. I got him to nurse on that side, trying to drain it and make the engorgement go away, but it didn't work. We headed out to go fishing and about an hour into it I started feeling really bad. The pain was getting really bad and I felt like I'd been hit by a truck. We left then, but by the time I'd got home I was shivering and had chill bumps all over. I headed to urgent care around 6:45 and turns out I also had a 103.1 fever. Apparently that's pretty high for an adult because the nurse was really worried about me. It was 90 degrees out and I was wearing a sweatshirt and jeans and really wished I'd brought a blanket with me. I was absolutely miserable. The doctor diagnosed me with mastitis, which I was certain I had anyways. They gave me a shot of Rocephin (antibiotic). They also wanted to give me a pain shot but I would be unable to feed Nate for a while so I declined. The doctor thought I was crazy, but I don't think he understood the severity of Nate's issue with anything artificial nor did he understand that I felt so bad that I'd take a sleeping baby and pain over being knocked out with pain meds and a hungry crying baby for Brent to deal with while also having to work the next day. Plus, not nursing when you have mastitis is counterproductive. In one breath he told me to feed as much and as often as possible to keep the ducts clear, but in the next he told me I should take this shot and not feed my baby for a while. Anyways, he also gave me a Rx antibiotic and Rx Motrin. He told me to followup with my OB in 2 days.
I'm still in a lot of pain and now the area is hot and red. I hoping that since the flu like symptoms are gone that means I'm getting better, but by the looks and feel of things, it's not. If it doesn't clear up soon and an abscess sets up, I'll have to have surgery so I hope the antibiotics are working. Nate would be SOL if I had to have surgery. I called OB's this morning and after getting the run around about how no one in the area will see me because I'm under the care of my delivering OB for 12 mos even though I live 3 hrs from them now, blah, blah, blah, I finally found a place that will see me tomorrow. I would have been really mad if I had to drive back to Athens with both kids just for a Dr's appt. although if I had it my way, I'd see them if I could. So, fingers crossed that I'm getting better...

Dynamite - Harvest Church
This is what Easter service was like at our church. Definitely nontraditional, which is why we like it so much!

Lucky
Sometimes I get down on life, my situation. No family nearby, a husband that works a lot, no sleep, terrible two's, etc. But then I walk out the front door and am reminded of my neighbor. She is 7 months pregnant with her second, her first is 16 months and not walking yet, her family is in Indiana....and her husband is deployed. He might be back before the baby comes, but recently received an email asking him to stay longer. I can not imagine what chaos her life must be. I couldn't even go to the doctor without Brent watching Logan, much less not having help with bed time, dinner, and all the everyday stuff. I remember how exhausted I was while pregnant and having a demanding, hyperactive toddler and there's no way I could have done it by myself.
I know that's the way of a military life/wife and a lot of people say that they signed up for it so they have no room to complain, but that doesn't make her situation any easier.
It just makes me realize just how lucky I am. I may not have family nearby to help with the kids a lot, but Brent's job enables me to stay at home and raise the boys, which is of the utmost importance to me. He is able to come home everyday and I don't have to worry about him losing his life in a war. His job has afforded us a life style that I never imagined possible for a little girl from Chickamauga, GA. We have a nice home, good cars, go on vacation, etc. I know "things" and money aren't everything, but it does make for an easier life. There's no worries about how the bills will get paid or if we'll eat dinner, like so many families out there. I'm very, very fortunate and I need to not take it for granted so much.
Thank you, Brent, for being an amazing father and husband. Your hard work and dedication to work is just another example of how dedicated you are to your family, by wanting to provide the absolute best life for us. The boys and I are so very lucky to have you and I thank God for you everyday. Love you!

Seriously?!
These kids have GOT TO SLEEP or I might seriously loose my mind (more than I already have). Nate is going through this stage where he just wants to eat and eat and eat. Then he gets full of air and a burp gets stuck. He pitches an absolute fit while I'm trying to help him get it out, which sometimes is a 30 minute ordeal. Then he's too awake to go right back to sleep so I have to start rocking and sometimes even let him nurse again and just hope the whole ordeal doesn't repeat. I can't let him cry it out because it wakes up Logan. That reminds me, I need to get a new fan for Logan's room for more noise. For weeks now Nate's been up every hour and then Logan is usually up by 6:00. I keep thinking growth spurt, but it's been going on too long now for that to be it. Last night, Nate started his whole ordeal at midnight. Then Logan was up at 2:00 and would not go back to sleep. Juice, singing, cuddling, etc...didn't work. He finally went back to sleep around 4:30. I remembered this morning that he was attacked by mosquitoes yesterday and he was probably itching. Seriously, the poor boy walked in after being out maybe 10 minutes without his shirt on and he had 10 new bites. I was feeding Nate and just let him stay out until I finished and he was COVERED! He went out for a few minutes this morning and has 3 more. We've got to figure out something to get these mosquitoes under control!
Nate's giving me trouble again going down for the night too. It usually stems to Logan being way too loud but a lot of times Brent isn't home yet, so I'm not really sure what to do about that. Nate has music on his swing that I turn on even if he's not in it, but if it gets too loud in there I can't hear what Logan's doing. The other day I was trying to get Nate down for a nap and I hear the garage door open. I rush downstairs and Logan has unlocked the deadbolt, gotten into the car and pushed the garage door opener. Oh boy, was he in TROUBLE! He could have gotten kidnapped, run over, or even suffocated in the hot car. He really scared me. I have a friend with a 3.5 year old and he's just now tall enough to reach the deadbolt and hasn't figured it out yet. I guess Logan's height is a disadvantage sometimes.
This too shall pass......right?? Seriously, I'm going on 3 years of not sleeping through the night. Let's hope it passes soon!

Easter 2011

We have had a nice, relaxing Easter Sunday! Brent was suppose to have a busy day at work, but an Easter miracle happened and he was able to be home around 10:30 a.m. We headed to the noon service at Harvest Church, which was amazing today. Then we went out to lunch and came home to see that the Easter Bunny had visited while we were gone. Brent didn't want to miss the Easter baskets while he was at work, so we loaded the kids in the car and put the baskets out before we left. After Easter baskets we laid down for a really long nap, which was highly needed by all!
Last weekend Laura was in town, so we had my family Easter celebration then. I really enjoyed getting to see Laura and spend time with her. Next weekend we are headed to Soddy Daisy for Laura Smith's wedding! So excited for her, Brad and Landon.

Crawling
Nate is officially crawling on his knees! Crazy! I'm surprised at how quick he switched to his knees. He'll be keeping up with his brother in no time!!
Nate seems to be feeling better. No more fever and tomorrow is his last day of antibiotics. His top two teeth are officially in, so maybe he'll start sleeping more than an hour at a time soon and maybe not be so clingy. Here's to hoping anyways!!
